Federal specification for wire rope and strands. This specification covers wire ropes and wire seizing strands. This specification does not include all types, classes, and so forth, that are commercially available, but it is intended to cover the more common types, classes, and so forth, which are suitable for Federal Government uses. This specification is not applicable to wire ropes specified for aeronautical uses.

MIL-W-18375
Military specification for flexible (7 x 7 and 7 x 19 constructions) wire rope, corrosion resistant, nonmagnetic, for aircraft control. Generally referred to as Type 305 S/S. The wire rope covered by this specification is intended for use in aircraft control systems applications where low magnetic permeability and high resistance is needed against corrosion, abrasion, and fatigue wear. Wire rope conforming to composition B of MIL-W-83420 has a higher strength and magnetic permeability than wire rope conforming to this specification.

Military specification for cable, steel (carbon) flexible, preformed. This is an obsolete specification that has been superseded by MIL-W-83420 Type 1, comp. A. for aircraft control use. Or RR-W-410 Type 5, Class 2 (7 x 7) or Class 3 (7 x 19) galvanized. Uses other than aircraft control.

MIL-T-781
Military specification for terminal, wire rope swaging. The corrosion resistant steel terminals covered by this specification are intended for swaging to corrosion resistant steel and galvanized cable conforming to MIL-W-83420 or RR-W-410 as applicable. (The ratings do not apply to strand, terminals will not develop full breaking strength on strand. Not intended for use with MIL-W-87161.) These terminals can also be used in applications involving corrosive conditions or where nonmagnetic properties are essential
